Finals at Urbandale High School
Finals at UHS will be held May 24, 25, and 26th. We have included the finals schedule in this newsletter and here are some things everyone should know:
A. Students are required to attend all finals including band, chorus, and PE.
B. Open Campus - Students can leave campus during lunch and during testing periods that they usually have learning center (students do not attend learning center during finals). The second exam time each day ends at 11:30 AM. That means students are on their own for one hour from 11:30 to 12:30, and they are allowed to leave campus. Also, students are allowed to leave when they normally would have learning center. Leaving campus is new to most students. Older students typically drive somewhere for lunch or simply go home. Younger students will often walk somewhere for lunch as it is a rare opportunity for them to leave campus during the school day. We want parents aware that students are allowed to go off campus during lunch and learning centers. Some times it is very cold so please be aware of what your student’s plans are if he/she decides to leave campus. Students who stay during lunch and learning centers must be in the commons or in the media center.
C. Lunch is served for students who decide to stay on campus. We encourage students to stay on campus for lunch.
D. Since leaving campus is a new experience for many of the students, they are not used to returning to campus either. It is typically routine, but they need to allow time to get into the parking lot, park, and still be on time for their next final. The expectation is that all students attend their finals on time. However, if a student arrives 15 minutes or more after the final begins, they will be counted unexcused and will be required to make up the final at another time.
E. Buses: Wednesday – regular Wednesday schedule as if we dismiss @ 2:15
Thursday – regular Thursday schedule as if we dismiss @ 2:15
Friday – Buses will arrive at the high school at noon

College Decision Day!
UHS is celebrating College Decision Day on May 1 & 2. Please encourage your son/daughter to stop by the Counseling Office to let us know their plans for next year. Also, on May 2, UHS students will celebrate by wearing a t-shirt or sweatshirt with the name of the college they are planning to attend next year. Staff will also participate by wearing a t-shirt or sweatshirt sharing the college they graduated from. Our goal is to continue to promote a college-going culture at UHS, so we hope to have everyone participate!
